Who Am I?

I'm Julian, a South Wales freelance I.T. jack of all trades. I've got 10 years commercial experience with software development, server management and all sorts of other computer related goodies.

You can find me on LinkedIn and GitHub. (I'm not much of an open source contributor until I need something fixed!)

If you haven't looked into my linked in then I'll cover some of the basics. I'm 29 years old, have my own transport and have always wanted to work for myself but never really had the motivation to just do it. I've always enjoyed a good challenge and experiencing as many things of possible, so for me this is just the next step.

I'm an honest (doesn't everyone say that though?) upfront and determined person, I've not ran into a problem related to computing that I haven't been able to solve, it's all down to how long it takes to do and having the right mindset to persevere.

If you want to know what I really love doing outside of work then I'm sure with a bit of effort you could find me on Steam and see all the hours spent on games. But I do love a good book and snowboarding. I like to think I'm a diverse person.

What I Do?

In short I can do a great many things, need a simple website? got you covered, need a temporary team member? I can do that too, or maybe just some consultancy? not a problem.

I can get you online with a quick pre-made website (something like Wordpress) or get your own email hosting with your domain up and running within a day.

If you've outgrown a CMS system like Wordpress or Umbraco and need something bespoke then I can definitely help you out.

Is your business expanding and you need some security for your office network? I can sort you out with a Windows Active Directory or a Linux Samba system.

How complicated a list do you want to see?

  • Host your website and email
  • Make you a custom website
  • Create a custom program to do something you need
  • Network security
  • Remote support for miscellaneous issues
  • PC builds
  • Help your team out for a while working on what it is you do
  • Consultancy
  • Automate on-site and off-site backups

I'm sure there's more I could put on this list but unless you've got something that's far too large for one person to handle drop me a message and I'm more than confident I'll be of some use to you.

This is a list of all the things I've used and know what I'm doing with, enjoy.

Server Stuff
  • Windows Server
  • Linux Sever (rpm and deb variations)
  • Active Directory
  • Exchange
  • IIS
  • Sql Server
  • MySQL
  • CouchDB
  • AWS
  • Azure
  • Samba
  • Dovecot/Courier
  • Postfix
  • Apache/Nginx
  • HA Proxy
  • Windows DNS/Bind9 DNS
Software Stuff
  • .NET (core and framework)
  • NodeJS
  • Javascript
  • HTML5
  • Responsive Design
  • PHP
  • SQL
  • Powershell
  • Build server setup
  • WPF
  • VB.NET
  • VB6 (it's been a long time since I was asked about this though!)
  • Java
  • Android
  • Monilith and microservice systems
  • Parallel processing for large scale data
Other Stuff
  • On-site and off-site backup
  • Network monitoring
  • Network administration

There are more things I can do but haven't listed because I'm not fully proficient with them commercially but could do them if it was required; I'm a fast learner.
For example, I contributed to CouchDB to add a feature I needed and had never used ErLang before, it took a day overall to get to grips with it but got it working none-the-less.
Another occasion I made a remote starter for my car with a Pic micro controller and learned about all the capacitors and resistors and the UART comms to a low level wifi controller for fun.
The point being nothing is impossible, it can just get far too complex to be worthwhile.

What I Cost?

You have 3 choices, you can hire me at £25/hr for as long as you want to do whatever you need (if travel is required you pay the cost).

Or you can hire me for a project which all depends on the project and how long it will take me, give me the details and I'll get you a quote.

Or we can negotiate a longer term contract where I work for you for a set amount of guaranteed hours at a set price.

My apologies if that isn't a great answer for you; it's really difficult to give a price for things that are totally unknown.

If you want to contact me send me an email and as long as I'm not sleeping you'll most likely get an answer within an hour. Include your phone number if you want me to call you! (I don't like listing my phone number because I'll get bombarded!)
